Forget what led up to that point. Neither man had broken the law until then, so no harm, no foul.

Zimm's life was endangered and Trayvon kept endangering it by continuing to bash his head on the cement.

Z's lies were a good part of the states closing arguments. The jury ignored it.

 

Or they did not believe that he lied. Seeing as how the police believed his version and he passed a Voice-Stress analysis, I could see why they thought GZ was being truthful.

Like in the GZ case, the prosecution failed to disprove reasonable doubt. What you or I think it should or should not have been is irrelevant.

 

Look at it like this. TM could have been using deadly force to save his own life. However, he got shot to death before he could save his life.

The whole event of how Z stalked TM, grabbed his clothes, shot him, and then whacked himself about his head and face could be shown on an IMAX screen and Z defenders would still claim that he's as innocent as pristine snow.
