They better raise wages to keep up with inflation as there are no cheap places to rent anymore so much so that nobody can rent anything at minimum wage.

Biden upped the "percentage of American made parts," or whatever it's called, so at least it's a step in the right direction.

And you're gullible enough to believe it.

First of all, almost any manufacturing jobs created are going to go off to China.

Answer where exactly this money is going to come from and how we know these taxes won't destroy jobs.

Government can make outsourcing expensive, but neither Democrats nor Republicans will do that.

What would happen in America if a President were to attempt to impose tariffs on countries who practice unfair business methods in dealings with us?

I would start with the excessive foreign outsourcing of IT jobs

those that control the information have the power and giving all that control to countries like India is a national security risk

as far as tariffs, start slow, do not try to impose them on everyone too fast, we got into this Pandora's box slow, we have to remove ourselves slow

Same thing which happened when Trump unilaterally imposed massive import taxes aka tariffs, - the American taxpayer shoulders the cost of the tariff. Interestingly Biden has left these taxes in place as opposed to repealing them.

    Quote
    • During his time in office, former President Trump unilaterally imposed numerous new tariffs on steel, aluminum, and a variety of goods from China, creating upward pressure on prices in the United States.
    • While many expected that the Biden Administration would reduce or eliminate tariffs that were originally imposed by the Trump Administration, especially those on strategic allies of the United States, the Biden Administration has so far kept all the former president’s tariffs in place.
    • Based on 2020 import levels, these tariffs currently impact over $410 billion of imports and exports and increase consumer costs by roughly $51 billion annually.
    • The tariffs are having a notable impact on trade levels, decreasing both imports and exports, which reduces consumers’ options and further increases prices in the United States.

Of course prices go up, that's what tariffs do or they don't work. If a country, say Japan, is dumping great motorcycles on the American Market causing an American company, say Harley Davidson to go out of business, how do we save Harley? And we did save H D. Tariffs work but their purpose is not to lower costs here, they are to level the field and make the competition fair.

HD issues were related to waning interest in their brand, Younger customers were not as interested in them as the aging generation. The government doesn't need to interfere every time a company struggles. HD is a dying brand, and not just in US, but worldwide.

A government induced trade war is usually very harmful.

As a matter of fact, the tariffs made it worse, because it resulted in counter tariffs in other countries, especially in EU. This year, however, the EU voted against tariffs against HD, and the sales in EU

Harley-Davidson Stock Soars As EU Decides Against 56% Tariff Surge

The Harley-Davidson stock price surged this morning after the European Union deferred a tariff plan that would have seen the classic American motorcycle maker face a 56% entry ticket into the European market.

Harley-Davidson Inc would have been one of the biggest losers if the tariff increase from the current 31% had gone through, though whiskey distillers and boat makers would also have taken a hit.

What hurt Harley was high quality low priced Japanese bikes. What saved Harley was equalizing the prices. Japanese highway cruisers were much better suited for long trips than a Harley was and they probably still are. Harley is an image but it used to shake the enamel off your teeth. I hear they are much smoother now.
