We have a hopeless, sociopathic element of our society that simply has no regard for human life and chooses to use violence as the way to solve their problems, but why? Answer that question, find some way to deal with them, and no one will need to scapegoat guns as the problem.

What can we try that red states have not done and failed to see meaningful reduction in gun violence? Harsher penalties don’t seem to impact them much, more people in jail doesn’t work as we are the highest incarcerated population on the planet, registration / background checks / training are off the table because the right wing thinks it will prevent them from stopping the US government when it goes “bad” and starts revoking freedoms (they have thus far been silent to major events of government intrusion)

Mental health programs might work but righties are against that also because of “socialism / communism”. Increasing educational attainment would also likely make a huge impact but there is a war on education in this nation.

Is anyone else starting to see the pattern here?

The pattern I’m seeing is if this happened on a street corner in Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, St. Louis, or Chicago it wouldn’t even be news worthy.

Other patterns I’ve seen over the last two years is increased overdose deaths, increased shootings, increased kids thinking they’re the wrong sex, increased illegals, increased oppression of women, and increased corruption in government.

 

I would suggest then a decreased diet of Faux news. All of these things are right wing media fodder to guarantee clicks

You are correct — people care about events that are more likely to impact their own family, gang shootings in cesspool areas of the country are mostly contained to that area. But you didn’t answer a single question I posed, just deflected the issue to something else.

1) society tries to prevent someone from committing malum per se actions by the threat of punishment.

HOW does the threat of punishment for a malum prohibitum offense deter someone who is not deterred by the consequences of being convicted of mass murder

2) for the really dim liberals who actually believe a gun ban can prevent those who premeditate mass murder from getting a gun, tell us why gun bans will work better than prohibition or the bans on crack, fentanyl, heroin or Schedule II narcotics bought and sold illegally

 

Blackground checks are being done. Registration is a red herring - the shooter is going think "oh,no, I better not shoot up this school because the AK is REGISTERED" nor do most shooters leave their guns behind . Training? Training to shoot straighter?

Precisely the question I asked the reader in the O/P. How do these guys get this way? If we knew the answer we could prevent a lot of these shootings. Deal with the offender, and we won't have to worry about the good guys who don't use their guns to shoot up kids at graduations. I'm sick of them and their guns being scapegoated for this ****. How about you?

All the gun laws in the world will not stop the carnage carried out by citizens that don't belong in an orderly society.
In California, a judge rules Newsom had to reduce over crowding. He took that and began to close prisons to increase overcrowding so more criminals were released.
Our government does not have what it takes to adequately punish repeat felons.

I don’t support a “ban” — but to answer your question, other nations have done so with varying levels of success. As the US relaxes gun laws we seem to be doing the opposite.

what laws have other countries implemented that you think would "help" here. why did our violent crime rate 1993-23 go down despite 200 million more firearms being bought by Americans

 

On initial sales only and some on the right are starting to say even this is unconstitutional

Registration is mainly to track who owns the weapon and force compliance with the aforementioned background checks on secondary sales as well as track individuals that “loose” weapons in unusual patters

Firearm safety training, I went through it when I had my CCL and found it beneficial especially with safe storing.

 

Those doing most of the shootings and killing don't care about more laws.

 

how are you going to register 300 or more million guns. the main purpose of registration is to facilitate either taxation or confiscation (as Britain did) and it shifts the burden of proof to private citizens if guns are banned. It has no crime solving value,
