Ahead of the civil damages trial, Giuliani said there shouldn’t be a jury, an argument Howell rejected on Sunday.

“Over the course of this litigation, Giuliani raised no objection to plaintiffs’ jury demand,” the Barack Obama appointee recalled. The Washington judge noted that, “absent Giuliani’s willful discovery misconduct warranting the sanction of default, plaintiffs’ jury trial right would be fully protected under the Seventh Amendment. For a plaintiff to lose that protected jury right in these circumstances seems patently unfair.”

Howell further deemed Giuliani’s attempts to blame the plaintiffs for any prejudice resulting from a bench trial instead of a jury trial as “simply nonsense.”

I wanted to start a generic thread about Rudy's jury trial for damages next week in DC, so this headline will do. The bigger story is that Rudy missed a MANDATORY pre-trial hearing today, and his lawyer had to take the blame

    SNIP
But Giuliani was a no-show at a federal court hearing in the duo’s defamation lawsuit, prompting a lashing for his attorney by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, who had ordered Giuliani to be present.

“How could you have missed that?” Howell asked Giuliani’s attorney, Joe Sibley, incredulously, when he took the blame for Giuliani’s absence.

“My mistake,” Sibley replied, prompting Howell to ask whether he was “falling on his sword” for the former mayor. Sibley insisted he wasn’t but rather that he simply had misunderstood Howell’s order requiring Giuliani’s presence at the hearing, the final session before the civil damages case goes before a jury next week.

Should be an interesting side show case while we wait for the main event(s) to start. Other than the Orange Abcess, I can't think of anybody who should suffer more from his 2020 actions, financially and personal freedomly, than this dolt.

Anybody have a guess on how much the human vampire is going to have to pay these 2 nice ladies? And where he'll get that money from?

I'm personally a little shocked he hasn't been able to settle this. No doubt in my mind a DC jury will award a lot more than these 2 Georgia ladies would have accepted in the first place.

How can he settle the case when besides being known as a cheap bastard he's supposedly broke?
I sure would like to know how much Freeman/Moss settled with OANN?

    He owes his Trump-humping ex-lawyer Costello/firm like 1.5 million.
I haven't heard if his NYC apt has sold, he also has a Florida residence.
    **** him.
    That said.

    Joe Sibley
One lawyer for 4 cases? lol
Besides Freeman/Moss here are 3 more.
    What about the ex-girlfriend/assistant case?

(Reuters) - More than two months after Rudy Giuliani was sued by Dominion Voting Systems Corp for $1.3 billion over his claims that the company stole the election from Donald Trump, a lawyer has finally appeared in the case to defend him.
    Giuliani turned to Joe Sibley
of Camara & Sibley, an Austin, Texas-based litigator who is already representing the former New York mayor in a lawsuit filed by the NAACP over his alleged role in inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

On Wednesday Sibley made his appearance in the Dominion case and moved to dismiss it, arguing the company's Washington, D.C., federal court lawsuit is procedurally improper and vowing to fight if it proceeds.

Giuliani is also relying on Sibley in the $2.7 billion Smartmatic lawsuit pending against him in New York state court since February. Both Dominion and Smartmatic claim Giuliani defamed them through his assertions that they helped rig the 2020 U.S. presidential election in Joe Biden's favor.'

'Ruby vs. Rudy: Giuliani faces Fulton County defamation trial next week'

'ATLANTA — Three years ago, Ruby Freeman was on the phone with a friend when a Facebook message popped up from a woman she didn’t know. It was a reporter who wanted to interview her.

“And I’m like interview me for what?” Freeman told congressional investigators.

She found out soon enough. Earlier that day, at the Georgia Capitol, Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, had showed state legislators security footage of ballot counting at State Farm Arena. Giuliani said — falsely — it showed evidence of voter fraud. In the video were Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss.

As she learned what was happening, Freeman’s phone began to blow up.

“I think I need an attorney,” she messaged the reporter.'

Not a normal jury though... only 8 people, since this is just the penalty phase. That's an odd number...

Like his fat deranged buddy, Rudy has already been determined to have lost the case on its merits...

Here's what your adviser says on your behalf when you are preparing to lose bigly..

    SNIP
Ted Goodman, a political adviser to Giuliani, told The Hill in an emailed statement that Giuliani is still the “same man who took down the Mafia, cleaned up New York City and comforted the nation following September 11th.”

“In the fullness of time, this will be looked at as a dark chapter in our nation’s history, as those in power attempt to destroy their partisan political opposition in ways that cause great, irreparable harm to the U.S. justice system,” Goodman said.

    Will he even show up?
    Show up and collapse ?
We know he'll appeal whatever their awarded.

'What price will Rudy Giuliani pay for smearing Georgia election workers?'

    snip:

'Giuliani’s lawyers have indicated that he may testify in person at the trial. If he does so he will not be allowed to repeat any of the defamatory slurs about the plaintiffs, as he has already accepted that he defamed them.

His lawyers have indicated that he will, though, attempt to show that his actions had minimal connection :roflol: to the blizzard of violent threats and harassment that the women have endured. That way he will hope to minimize the damages awarded by the jury.

Trial begins today.... I think this is the first time I've seen the potential amount(s) requested

    SNIP
Attorneys for Freeman and Moss intend to ask the jury for between $15.5 million and $43 million in damages. That total does not include any punitive damages the jury could award, or those for intentional inflection of emotional distress, according to The New York Times. Giuliani has already been ordered to pay the womens’ legal fees.

Surprisingly ( to me) the old pervert made it to the DC court.
Who will the state and defense call as witnesses?

Thanks for the head's-up on the 6/8 member jury.
Looks like it was an easy process sitting a jury.

    'What happened on Monday?'

'Jury selection began Monday morning. Judge Howell ordered Giuliani, Freeman and Moss to appear in person in Courtroom 26A inside the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse.

A jury was seated early Monday afternoon, according to reporters who were in the courtroom. Under federal law, a civil case requires a unanimous verdict from at least six jurors. Howell set a goal of putting eight people on the jury as a precaution, to allow for possible illness and other issues.

Lawyers in the case were expected to deliver opening statements on Monday, after the jury was sworn in and received their instructions. Lawyers have previously said they'll need about a week to present their evidence. But the court is also warning potential jurors that the proceeding could spread into a second week.

The plaintiffs and defendant are to be "present in person for the duration of trial," Howell wrote in a court document.'

So how does one not regret lying while telling the truth?
    Stay tuned kids.
    This gotta be good.

'Giuliani attorney Joseph Sibley told jurors there's no question that Freeman and Moss were harmed and that they're "good people," but he added that the “punishment must match the crime.” He said Giuliani never promoted racism or violence and that the millions of dollars Freeman and Moss are seeking would be the “civil equivalent of the death penalty.”

“It would be the end of Mr. Giuliani,” Sibley added.

But in comments outside the courthouse Monday, Giuliani told reporters he did not regret his lies, and he claimed that he "told the truth" about Freeman and Moss.

“When I testify, you’ll get the whole story, and it will be definitively clear what I said was true,” he said.'

How much should Rudy be financially slammed for this?

I wouldn't be surprised if some on the jury saw this as having racial overtones.
Giuliani's lawyer Sibley said on opening that nothing Rudy did promoted racism so iirc: since the defense went there then the state can bring racism into the defamation case?
Freeman and Moss were inundated with vile, racist and violent threats.

I see it as having racial overtones, anyone else?

'In the days after the election, Freeman and Moss became the subjects of a Trump-backed conspiracy theory that was later found to be "false and unsubstantiated," according to an investigation by the Georgia Elections Board. Giuliani, in an appearance before a committee of the Georgia state legislature, told lawmakers that a video circulating online showed "Ruby Freeman and Shaye Freeman Moss ... quite obviously surreptitiously passing around USB ports, as if they're vials of heroin or cocaine."
