It's in part a reference to the opening of Psalm 22.

So it is prophetic, since Psalm 22 predicted the way in which Jesus would die.

It also signifies the separation that existed (which had to exist at that time) between Jesus and God the father.

If that still doesn't make sense to you, there are endless sources that go into much more detail explaining it. These sources are not hard to find, but YOU have to look for them.

I already did. What you claim were Jesus's last words, is false. It's YOUR thread, correct me.

The explanation is incredibly simple. The sins are forgiven after death, not during life. The sacrifice on the cross was never meant for the living. According to Mark, the oldest text, Jesus descended into the realm of the dead to save souls. There were at the time several myths about gods and heroes who descended into the world of dead and returned, showing the way to resurrection. Jesus was only one of those - god, hero, or both, depending on which sect you asked. Many different beliefs of different Christian and pagan sects have been incorporated into what we call Christianity today, and the primary teachings had been lost or distorted almost beyond recognition. Comparisons with other, similar faiths and myths in the same period, and the Gnostic gospels recently discovered, can shed some light on early Christian beliefs.

The above also explains Jesus' words on the cross. The Gospels are a conglomerate of different, often opposing beliefs. Whoever wrote those words was probably a Jewish convert (the phrase is in Hebrew in the original Greek text) who didn't believe gods can be killed by humans. We can interpret them as either meaning that Jesus was human from the beginning to the end, or that Jesus was a human inhabited by a god who left the mortal body before death.

See my quote that you edited out. Or just read the Bible. Lying about Jesus is a very grave form of Blasphemy. Woe unto you.

''Woe unto you''? It is sometimes difficult, especially on this site, to tell if people are being sarcastic or serious. That silliness and the fact that you're calling me a liar and I ''edited'' something out puts you in troll territory. Are you saying the book of Matthew is lying?

Do you have a hard time reading? I already told you his last words.
''It is finished, Father into your hands I commend my spirit''.
No, I was quite serious, lying about Christ is blasphemy.

This thread is a dishonest troll thread.

It's right there in the Bible, the book you atheist are such 'experts' on. It's a misleading thread but if you want to carry the Op's water, have fun.

Which version and which writer? We have lots to choose from:

    • Luke 23:34: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
    • Luke 23:43: Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
    • John 19:26–27: Woman, behold your son. ...
    • Matthew 27:46 & Mark 15:34 My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?
    • John 19:28: I thirst.

If he died for MY sins then I guess I don't have anything to worry about :)

Why would I have to justify myself to the one who allegedly created me and my faults ?????

There are 7 sayings on the cross. The 'it is finished' one was his very last words.

Sure, if you think correcting the record for truth is 'silly' I'll be silly. What's that make someone defending a lie?
