Trump Is Disqualified From the 2024 Ballot, Colorado Supreme Court Rules

    Ooh, that's gotta hurt

Next stop an appeal then the supreme court

It’s the first court to find that the disqualification clause of the 14th Amendment applies to Mr. Trump, in addition to affirming that he engaged in insurrection.

In a stunning and unprecedented decision, the Colorado Supreme Court removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot, ruling that he isn’t an eligible presidential candidate because of the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.”

    The ruling was 4-3.

The ruling will be placed on hold pending appeal until January 4.

trump and his trumpatriots continue to make history in the United States. Almost 100 criminal charges, 4 indictments, 2 impeachments, zero popular vote wins and now states are starting to remove him from even being able to run.

We will be studying how the a very vocal minority forced such an individual on the rest of the nation and their attempts to reverse the will of the people.

Makes me proud to be a resident of this great state. Go, Colorado!

May they be the first in a long row of dominoes.

I wonder how many other states will follow suit?

Will this force republicans to return to their roots and abandon extremism or will they double down?

    Good for them!!!

    More on same:

: Donald Trump is barred from Colorado’s 2024 primary ballot, the state Supreme Court rules in a landmark decision

The ruling marked the first time a court kept a presidential candidate off the ballot under an 1868 provision of the Constitution that prevents insurrectionists from holding office. The ruling comes as courts consider similar cases in other states. The decision is certain to be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but it will be up to the justices to decide whether to take the case.

Um, Colorado leans Democrat these days. It isn't a Republican state. And, I'm not sure that this counts as a victory since it's up for appeal.

    Well, duh

Much like the case the SCOTUS will take up regarding immunity and double jeopardy, they will have to take this one up ASAP as well... Busy Christmas season for the 6 grinches...

Primary ballot for now... Here's the money shot from the ruling

    upload_2023-12-19_18-52-13.png

I have to apologize to the poster in another Mango thread where I said his C members can write his name in.... Seems that's not allowed either...

So if this holds, he won't win the Col primary, which will slow his fascist run to the WH not at all....

Finally, WTF are they referring to him as "President Trump" in their ruling?

    He's NOT....

I don't know about that they don't particularly love Trump except for maybe Thomas.

Come on! Let us bask in the glory for a couple of weeks at least! We can groan disappointedly if/when the SCOTUS reverses this.

If you're not on the primary ballot then you're not on the november ballot either. You have to win the nomination.

    :)

Griswold has to certify the primary ballot(s) by Jan 5th.... by state law...

Sounds like a deadline to me...

I just read your fine print. This decision WAS the appeal..... I'm pretty sure the only thing left is SCOTUS....

I think the SCOTUS should take this up in 2025.

After all, both sides need to prepare their briefs. Need to err on the side of caution with a decision this important. Also need time to let the criminal trials conclude. Meanwhile, the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution should be applied by other states…………

If you win the overall primaries, then you'd be on the general election ballots everywhere, so he can afford to get 0 delegates from CO, but still be on the ballot in Nov. .

Not true. Parties can ignore the primary and pick who they want. But I’m sure this ruling applies to the general also.

Why should the disenfranchisement of Republicans cause them to "return to their roots"?

    You are sowing the wind.

Yea, you are right — they have abandoned those principles completely. Babbitt fafo previously, hopefully the extreme fascist spectrum of the rightwing doesn’t take that avenue again.

    But we shall see.
